I love to take older clothes and turn them into something totally different. DIY is something I do a lot of! From dresses to skirts, from dresses to shirts, from pants to shorts to shredding and cutting out pieces of your clothes. The first time I tried to cut my own leggings I won’t lie, I was a bit nervous but I have so many leggings that if I ruined a pair would it really matter? I found a DIY video on You Tube and away I went.
I was really happy with how they turned out and was pretty proud of myself. From there I became more confident in trying other things. I have ordered a few clothes and when they arrive they sometimes aren’t quite what they looked like online. I am sure most of you can relate. I ordered a dress and I loved the bottom half of it but the top half was really boxy and didn’t look right on me. I was disappointed and didn’t like feeling like I wasted my money so I cut the top half off and it went from a dress to a skirt in a matter of seconds! Voila!
Some people can pay up to $200 for shredded jeans! No thanks!! I bought a pair of boy friend jeans at Old Navy for $20 and watched a couple videos on You Tube and learned how to shred them with an box cutter. After washing them a few times they were exactly how I wanted them. DIY and you can shred as much as you want or as little as you want all while saving yourself some money!
I was watching Housewives of New Jersey (don’t judge!!) and I saw one of them wearing a shirt with cut outs down both sleeves. I loved the look of it and made a mental note to look for one. Then I thought, no way I can do this myself! This one was definitely more challenging as the cut outs on both sleeves had to align. There wasn’t any You Tube videos for this one so I folded the shirt in half and used chalk to draw my cut outs. Then let the scissors to the rest. I tried it on and hoped for the best! Yes!!! It worked. Now I have a one of a kind shirt!
This Spring when I was going through my closet I was about to donate a pair of jeans that I don’t wear anymore. Then I realized I could turn them into long jean shorts that I have been wanting to get ever since I saw Kim K and Kylie wearing them.
So don’t be afraid to experiment and try some DIY’s. I have had a couple of fails but be sure to start with older clothes so you won’t be upset if you mess up. Good luck and have fun!
