LIFE….it can be short so live it loudly and to the fullest.

The last few weeks have been very difficult for a lot of people I love.  Losing someone you love is one of the hardest things you will go through.  When things like this happen it always makes me appreciate life even more.  This blog is not going to be a sad one or about death it is going to be an uplifting one, full of life because life is precious and a valuable gift.   Life can get busy and hectic and it is easy to get caught up in our every day lives but it is very important to enjoy each day to the fullest.

If there is something you have been wanting to do, I say do it now!  Time to stop putting things off and making excuses.  We simply do not know when our time will run out and you don’t want to live your life regretting anything.  If you have been wanting to take a trip and you keep saying you don’t have time or don’t have the money,  you could live your whole life not taking that trip.  Take action,  start saving today or take the time off work and do it!  If you have been wanting those expensive shoes and you know you will love them and wear them, go buy them!  Life is meant to be enjoyed to the maximum.

Is there something that you are afraid to do?  Part of embracing life and living it to the fullest is facing your fears.  This can be so rewarding and life changing.  Some people are afraid to fly and refuse to get on a plane.  Imagine all the places in the world they will never get to see,  the experiences they will never get to experience,  the food they will never get to eat and the people they will never get to meet.   Some people are afraid of water and can’t swim.   They will never get to so snorkeling or feel the ocean waves crash over their face.   Our fears can stop us from experiencing some amazing things that life has to offer.  Imagine what is on the other side of your fears waiting for you?!

What are your passions?  Write down everything that you are passionate about.  What makes your heart happy?  What makes you excited?  Do more of those things!  Fill your life with passion,  live that exciting life that you deserve.  Now write down the things that don’t make you happy and try to eliminate them.  Don’t tolerate things in your life that you don’t have to.  Surround yourself around happy and positive people who love you.  I think as we get older we become stronger and we should create boundaries and not let people or things get past those boundaries.

Over all we should breath deeply and live our lives passionately and loudly.  We should live our healthiest lives and take care of our bodies.  We should worry less and love more.   Our world we live in today needs much more love in it and I think we can make it a better world if we all just loved ourselves and others more.   I know most of us are trying our hardest but this was just a gentle reminder that life is precious and we should appreciate each day and live our lives as greatly as possible.

WEARING COLOUR…..and what it says about your personality.

The colours we wear can say a lot about our personality.  Most of us have a favorite colour that we tend to gravitate to.  You might not be aware of it but experts say that on a subconscious level we are drawn to certain colours depending on our emotions,  our personality and our mood at the time.

PURPLE – Stands for wealth, royalty and sophistication.

Purple can suggest that you have a charming and creative personality and usually has a love for the arts.  By wearing purple it shows that you are confident with a mixed personality who can be both calming and unpredictable.  People who wear purple are usually mysterious, imaginative and ambitious.

ORANGE – Says you are unique and exciting.

Not a lot of people enjoy wearing orange or can wear orange.  If you are a lover of orange you are different than most.   Orange says you are bubbly with an energetic personality!  You are usually the life of the party,  you are warm and love having a great time.  You are friendly,  appealing and approachable.  Wearing orange says you are enthusiastic,  determined and fascinating.   I think we need to start wearing more orange!

BLUE –  You are loyal and confident.

Blue is one of the most popular colours that people love to wear.  It indicates you are confident, successful and loyal.   It is a very comforting and soothing colour so people are comfortable around someone who is wearing blue.  A dark blue such as navy blue is the colour suggested to wear for a job interview because it gives off an ‘ in control ‘ vibe and shows off your strong personality.   Blue also represents stability, trust and intelligence.

YELLOW – You have a happy,  fun and positive energy.

Yellow is the sunshine colour.  It makes people feel happy and uplifted.  Yellow is known to improve concentration so this is a great colour to wear to work or school.   Women who wear yellow are very feminine and vivacious.  Wearing yellow says you are adventurous,  clever and have a good sense of humor.  It stands for wisdom and imagination.  Wearing too much yellow can be very over powering and intimidating so be careful with this colour.

RED – Says you are passionate and outspoken.

Red is the colour of love,  passion and romance.   You can be a risk taker, sometimes aggressive and strong-willed.  You love to live your life to the fullest.  You are not scared easily and you love attention.  Red can be a very intense and emotional colour.  It is known to enhance appetite and metabolism.   People who wear red are usually outgoing,  impulsive and full of energy.

GREEN – You are serene and soft.

Green is a soothing colour that is easy on the eyes.  Wearing green shows you have a soft heart and you are a caring person.  You want to be well liked and known.  You like to comfort people and you care for the environment.  You can be mysterious but charismatic.  You have an active social lifestyle and you are well known in your community.  You want to feel secure with your finances and your relationships.  Green stands for safety, growth and harmony.

BLACK – Exudes luxury and elegance.

Black is popular with women because it is flattering, classy and gives the illusion of being slimmer.  It stands for authority,  power and luxury.   Black can also give off a cold and unapproachable vibe so this is why adding a pop of colour is a good idea.  Black is associated with wealth,  intelligence and the unknown.  Wearing black says that you want to be taken seriously in an elegant way.  Black says authority and independence are important to you.

GREY – Says you prefer your space.

Grey is subtle but also elegant.  Wearing grey often means you are neutral in your beliefs and personality.  You do not want to draw attention to yourself and you enjoy your space.  Grey can mean that you are indecisive, sometimes emotionless and detached.  It also is a formal, conservative, and sophisticated colour.  Grey is timeless and practical.

WHITE – You are pure and optimistic.

White stands for pure, innocent and simple.  Wearing white means you are a reliable person with an optimistic view of life.   You love the sense of freedom and new fresh beginnings.   You appreciate good things and like perfection.

PINK – You are kind and feminine.

Pink says you have a soft,  affectionate,  comforting personality.  You do not like violence or cruelty what so ever.  You can be vulnerable at times.  You are kind,  generous and caring person.  You are sensitive to the need of others and people are drawn to your warm personality.  You are very nurturing and can be protective.

BROWN – You are dependable and steady.

Wearing brown shows that you are reliable and stable.  You are rational and prefer to be sensible about things.  You do not rush into something,  you like to consider all your options first.  Brown promotes communication.   You are sincere,  slightly conservative and peaceful.

SILVER – You love adventure and are up for anything.

You are sophisticated and not shy to stand out and be the centre of attention.  You do not like negativity in your life and you are emotionally stable.   You are adventurous and sometimes live on the edge.  Silver is associated with wealth, maturity, and intelligence.  You can be considered futuristic and you are open to change.   It is a powerful and glamorous colour.

GOLD – You are charming and creative.

Not everyone can pull off this metallic colour so this shows how confident you are.  When you wear gold you look unique and stylish, while showing off your charismatic personality.  You like to be respected and you make others feel valued.  People feel comfortable being around you.  You are warm and compassionate.  Wearing gold shows your creative side.  You tend to make others feel empowered when they are in your presence.

I loved writing this blog and learning more about my personality.  I wear mostly black, pink,  blue and recently just started wearing red.   What do your colours say about you?

SEASONS CHANGE…..and so does our wardrobe!!

As Canadians we talk about the weather a lot and probably more so in the winter because it’s so cold and snowy.  Mocha and I went for a walk this weekend and for the first time this year I was not wearing my winter jacket.  The sun was shining,  the snow was melting and then I realized,  spring is actually around the corner.  I could even smell it in the air.  I started to notice people were laughing and smiling as they walked by.  The weather totally affects our mood and usually around this time of year we are over winter.   That is one of the things I love about living in Canada,  seasons change and with that so does our wardrobe!   Don’t get me wrong,  I still try to keep it cute all winter as challenging as it might be when you are trying to dress for warmth.

When the weather starts to get warmer we start to shed our mitts, scarves and hats.  Our coats and boots become lighter.   I am optimistic spring is around the corner so it’s my job to show you what we can expect to see on the streets this season.  Prepare you for your wardrobe change if you will.

Head to toe neutral….

Butterfly details…..

Pale blue…..

Polka dots…..

Bike shorts…..

One cold shoulder…..

Obviously I don’t love all of these,  you aren’t meant to.   I do like most of these looks though and I am really loving the one cold shoulder.  There is always one trend every year that I say I don’t like and I won’t be wearing and then a few months after seeing it more and more I change my mind.  This year,  it’s the bike shorts.  I wasn’t feeling it at first but I have added them to my shopping list.  Are there any you are going to add to your wardrobe change?

LOVE YOURSELF….all of yourself!

lips6When I was a young girl I hated my nose!  I thought I looked like a chipmunk and I did not like that the tip of my nose turned up.  I remember when I was about five or six years old I would sleep with my face squished into the pillow to try to flatten my nose!  Good thing I never suffocated!  How silly was that?!   I look back now at how ridiculous that was and how even at a young age we find things that we do not like about ourselves.  Let’s just say I have grown into my nose and I think it’s adorable now.

Look how cute we were though,  seriously?  How could anyone at that age hate their nose and want to change it so badly?  Looking at this picture I wonder what my brother thought about his chubby little cheeks?!  Back to me though,  this blog is about me!  ha ha….

Then came high school.  I will never forget when I started hating on my lips!  I started realizing how big they were and wishing that they were smaller!  One day a friend jokingly called me platypus.  Do you know how huge platypus lips are?  Well actually they aren’t even lips they are more like a duck’s bill.  I laughed and played it off but my massive lips were all I could think about for the next few years.  This magically changed when people started talking about how hot Angelina Jolie was and how gorgeous her big lips were.  I started thinking to myself that maybe mine weren’t so bad after all.  Over the years big lips became quite the thing and now people go as far as injecting their lips to make them big and plump.   So as it turns out, I win!  My plump lips,  my chipmunk nose and I all win!

There were other things that I struggled with along the way.   Wishing I was prettier,  wishing I was thinner and wishing my chest was smaller.  Once I started accepting that these things made me unique and different from everyone else I really started loving myself…. all of myself!   It’s truly an empowering feeling when you get to that point.  It took me a long time to get to where I am but I love that I did and I love that I can help others get there as well.

Most of us have things about ourselves that we do not like or might even hate,  even the most beautiful people in the world have things they wish they could change about themselves.  Once you learn to embrace everything about you and truly love every part of you it will show and you will be even more beautiful.

I have decided to dedicate the whole month of February to love.  Self-love!  Loving myself a little bit more each day and I really encourage you all to do the same.

HOW I MADE MY GOALS EVEN BETTER!! ….2019 my best year ever!

I was feeling pretty motivated when I wrote my previous blog about my 2019 goals.  That was until I attended the most amazing conference in Nashville last week.  Get this,  it was called Best Year Ever.  The next three days were intense as Michael Hyatt spoke to us and with each passing day you could feel the excitement in the room growing.  During this time he taught us why it was important to make goals each year and how to actually achieve them.  Let’s just say I came home feeling so focused and powerful.  It was clear to me that I needed to write another blog about my goals but this one would be much more inspiring!

Our first day Michael told us that we were all meant to reach our dreams!  We learned to design our break through year and how it was important to be as clear as possible when writing down your goals.   He told us to be clear on our destination and imagine your outcome.   We all have domains in our life and they all work together like a symphony.  When all our domains are balanced and fulfilled it creates a healthy and happy lifestyle.  Our domains are Spiritual, Intellectual, Emotional, Physical,  Marital,  Parental,  Social,  Vocational (work life) ,  Avocational (hobbies) and Financial.   When making your goals at the beginning of each year make sure to write them down!  Start working towards each goal NOW!  If your goal is to save money, don’t tell yourself you will start when you are out of debt.  Go see a Financial Planner and start to get out of debt right away.  Start your goal where you ARE not where you wish you were.  Don’t be embarrassed where your now is either.   In order to set yourself up for a successful year you must take some time to reflect on your previous year and be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you have any regrets.  Acknowledge them,  learn from them and let them go.  Do not bring your regrets into the new year.   It is extremely important to believe in yourself and suspend any disbeliefs you might have.  A good idea is to start saying daily affirmations out loud to yourself every day.  I always thought affirmations were kind of cheesy to be honest but daily affirmations are now a new goal of mine.  I say them out loud  to my self every morning in the shower.   Does my dog wonder who I am talking to?  Probably!  The key is to be consistent with them and make them part of your daily routine.  Now I feel like I am multi tasking when I am in the shower, it’s rewarding!  It’s the small things people!

It’s also important not to be overly goal orientated.  This can set you up for failure.  Michael suggests having 7 to 10 yearly goals.  I originally had three!  I now have seven exciting goals.  Some people might get over whelmed by this and not know where to start so it’s a great idea to break them down to quarterly goals and start with the easiest task first.

Our second day we learned how to face our fears.  Voicing your fears to yourself helps minimize your fear.  Imagine all that you can accomplish once you face your fears and what is waiting for you on the other side of your fears.   We then learned how to make a good goal even better!  This was the exciting part for me.  An example of this……

Good goal….. I will workout.

Better goal….  Exercise five times a week at 6:30 am for an hour starting January 15th.

Your goal should start with an action verb, include a start date and be as specific as possible.

Your goals should be risky!  Risky goals ignite your imagination,  they demand creativity,  they enhance results and they inspire enthusiasm!   Your goals should also be exciting and inspire you.  You should also give your self a dead line to reach each goal.  Give yourself less time than you need and do not set the dead line for the end of year.

Creating daily habits and rituals are crucial to reach your goals!   I never knew this and found this part very interesting.  Amazingly enough, 90% of people do not have rituals.  The 10% that do succeed!  I now have a new morning routine and nightly routine.  My morning routine is waking up at 6 am during the week in order to work out at 6:15 am.  I workout for an hour and then walk Mocha for 20 to 30 min.  I say my affirmations while I am in the shower.   I make my social media posts and then don’t check social media again till lunch.  I watch TV while I eat breakfast and then I am ready to start work day at 9 am!  My nightly routine is writing in my grateful journal at 9 pm while watching TV (during a commercial)  at 9:30 pm I set my phone on top of my work out clothes that are already laid out across the room.   This is so I have to get out of bed to turn off my alarm.  This way I don’t lay in bed looking at my Facebook for 15 min. and waste time.  (that was what 2018 Melissa would do)  I read for 30 min and turn the lights out at 10 pm.   I have a great night sleep and wake up refreshed and energized for another exciting day!  Those simple morning and nightly routines are helping me work towards four of my seven goals!   1.  working out   2. daily affirmations   3. less time on social media   4.  reading every day.  Boom!! How can I NOT reach these four goals this year?  I am already doing daily tasks in order to get there!   This is a recipe for success my friends!

In order to keep the momentum going and stay focused all year you need to write down your motivations for each goal.   At the end of each week read over these motivations in order to keep you on track.  Your motivations are your why.  You never want to lose your why.  Why am I even doing this?  Your motivations will tell you and keep reminding you why you are doing this.  Be prepared to have a messy middle along the way.  You might find you want to give up at some point but going back to your why will motivate you to keep going.  If your goal is to workout then some of your motivations might be….

  1.  So I can look and feel better
  2.  To lose weight
  3.  To live a healthier lifestyle

Day three we learned how important gratitude was.   Gratitude keeps you motivated and keeps you hopeful.  It can also improve your patience.  You won’t get more of what you want until you are grateful for what you already have.  This is why I have started writing in my grateful journal every night.   I write down five things I am grateful for.  They could be small things or big things.   You might be grateful that the sun was shining that day or you might be grateful that you paid off your credit card bill.   We also learned how to make each goal happen and how to determine the next steps to reach your goals.  You don’t need to know the whole path on how you will get to your goal, just starting with the first few steps and creating momentum is key.    Play full out with your goals!  Don’t have a plan B.  Why set your self up for failure?  You can experiment and change strategies if something doesn’t work but don’t change your goal completely with a Plan B.   Review your 7 to 10 goals every day.   Review your list of motivations for each goal at the end of each week so you don’t lose visibility of your goals along the way.  Ask your self each day what can I do today to move towards my goals?   I have also started asking myself this…. Will this bring me closer towards my goal or will it bring me further from my goal?  When you reach your goal give yourself a reward!  Celebration is very powerful and gives you a sense of progress and confidence.

This is how I turned my three previous goals into even better goals……..

1. Good goal –  I am going to change my workouts so I am leaner and stronger.

Better goal –  Workout out five times a week at 6:15 am for an hour every week starting Jan. 15th by incorporating Ballet,  Yoga and Pilates.

2.  Good goal –  I am going to read more.

Better goal –  Read for 30 minutes every night starting Jan. 15th.

3.  Good goal –  I am going to blog for a local store.

Better goal –  Write a blog for a store starting in April.  I will complete a course on blogging in January.  I will update my website in February.  I will create a blog portfolio in March so I am fully prepared in April.

I really hope that I have inspired some of you to pounce on your goals and to use this information in order to set yourself up for your best year ever!   Feel free to message me if you have any questions or need some help setting your goals for 2019.

Fun facts….

42% of people are more likely to reach their goals simply by writing them down.

8% of people are successful with their resolutions.

The average person makes the same resolution ten times!!
